Written by the 11th-century Andalusian princess and poet Wallada bint al-Mustakfi, the poem behind the famous line "I am, by Allah, fit for high positions" originates from the vibrant literary culture of Córdoba in Islamic Spain. Defying the restrictive societal norms of her time, Wallada famously had these verses embroidered in gold on the borders of her garments—declaring on one hem, "I am, by Allah, fit for high positions, / And am going my way with pride!", and on the other, her unapologetic approach to romance and independence. She used her inherited wealth and status to host a renowned literary salon, walked about unveiled, and cemented her legacy as an emblem of female autonomy, wit, and artistic brilliance in Al-Andalus.
